The 2019 Volkswagen Jetta is a sophisticated compact sedan that provides owners with lots of space to carry cargo and excellent fuel economy. Santa Cruz Volkswagen shoppers tell us they also appreciate the Jetta’s spacious cabin and luxurious available features. Of course, the Jetta benefits from Volkswagen’s renowned reliability as well as its exceptional warranty.
For 2019, the Volkswagen Jetta gets a complete redesign. According to the Volkswagen dealer near Santa Cruz, Volkswagen added more standard features, including an updated infotainment system and full-LED lighting. Upscale options include the Digital Cockpit, which utilizes a 10.3-inch screen in the instrument cluster that replaces the speedometer and tachometer. There’s a new R-Line trim, which adds a sporty appearance, as well as a top-of-the-line SEL Premium trim.
The new Jetta is slightly larger than last year’s model, with a longer wheelbase. The styling gets a touch more sophistication, with a larger grille and a more aggressive stance. The additional size means front-seat passengers will have more room to stretch out and be comfortable.
Kelley Blue Book’s kbb.com wrote: “Now in its seventh generation, VW’s 5-passenger compact sedan returns with crisp design, enhanced safety and driver-assist features, and fresh technology. ... As the only mainstream European compact sedan on the market, the 2019 Jetta boasts zesty driving manners and contemporary design, all while hiding a few tricks up its sleeve.”
When considering the Volkswagen Jetta trim levels, the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta seats five passengers and is offered in five trim levels, listed as S, SE, R-Line, SEL and SEL Premium. Under the hood, all models get a turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine good for 147 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft. of torque. The base S trim gets a choice between a standard six-speed manual transmission and an optional eight-speed automatic that’s standard on the other trims. Fuel economy is exceptional, with an EPA-estimated 30/40 mpg.*
Inside, you’ll find a cabin that features simple elegance. The controls are user-friendly and logically placed. There’s an outstanding central infotainment touchscreen (6.5-inch for lower trims and 8-inch for upper trims). The S trim gets cloth seats, while the SE, R-Line and SEL trims come with V-Tex leatherette. At the top of the lineup, the SEL Premier gets genuine leather.
On the outside, VW’s designers have chosen to eschew flashy design in favor of classic lines that won’t look dated a few years from now. The wraparound grille is attractive without being ostentatious. Creases on the sides add even more style. The R-Line trim features an exclusive sporty grille and bumper, along with black side-mirror caps. The R-Line, as well as the SEL Premium get standard fog lights.
The 2019 Volkswagen Jetta is very safe. The IIHS gave the 2019 Jetta it’s top score of Good in all six crash tests. The NHTSA gave the Jetta it’s highest overall safety rating of five stars.
