Volkswagen offers to take full control of Scania

Friday, March 21st, 2014

Since 2000, Volkswagen has been a key investor in the Swedish truck maker, Scania. VW has controlled 89.2% of the voting rights and 62.6% of the capital since they became an investor, and now they have offered to buy them entirely. Volkswagen has offered an unbeatable offer of $9.3 billion dollars in an all-cash deal, but Scania has not yet accepted. “Scania is a world leader in its industry and the committee has strong faith in the business plan set out by the company” said Asa Thunman, chairwoman of the independent committee of directors. “Our assessment is that the current offer does not reflect the long-term value of the company and a fair share of the synergies.” Volkswagen, however, believes that its offer would allow Scania shareholders to realize the maximum value they can realistically expect from their investment and that it exceeds the value of Scania and includes a fair share of the incremental long-term synergy value potential based on a full integration between the two companies.

The Beetle “Wedding Car”

Wednesday, March 12th, 2014

Volkswagen has a collection of air-cooled models and the Beetle “Wedding Car” is on their top three favorites list. There are many stories of its origin, but the most credible story according to a VW blogger named Drew, is that the original owner did not have the means to restore it, however being that he was a very talented iron worker, he sculpted a unique patterned body of wrought iron rods and was used for private weddings in Mexico. After taking notice of this magnificent recreation, VW asked for  two to be built at the factory in Puebla, Mexico – to be used as display vehicles for sponsorship at the 1968 Olympic Games.
