VW’s New Slogan is a Name Unto Itself

Wednesday, December 30th, 2015

Cardinale VW 1_NewSlogan

As part of a massive re-branding effort, and a foray into a more humble nature, Volkswagen has done away with its tagline, “Das Auto”. The slogan, which has been used since 2007, means literally, “The Car”. Now, the German automaker uses its own name, to highlight their “newfound humility”, according to Reuters. The brand refresh will be rolled out in stages across the globe. The timing is right, in the wake of its recent diesel emissions challenges. In an era when automakers are called to be more socially and environmentally conscious, and are thus being held to higher standards, Volkswagen recognizes that humility and transparency are paramount. As one’s brand equates to their reputation, VW has chosen to supplement its trademark logo with nothing other than the kind of simplicity which engenders new levels of connection with the consumer.

How the Move Toward Electric Cars Helps Investors…

Wednesday, December 30th, 2015

Cardinale VW 2_LithiumIonbatt

Volkswagen’s shift to electric vehicles may have been prompted by the recent challenges with diesel emissions; however, the timing is right for the German automaker to join this growing trend. The shift towards hybrid and electric vehicles is not new; however, now there is a heightened sense of urgency for VW to get there. Additionally, this shift is reported to drive an increase in demand for lithium-ion batteries and the raw materials required to make them. And while companies like Volkswagen are new to the market, thus having to catch up to competitors like Tesla, GM and BMW, the move toward more EVs will “eventually add pressure to already strained future battery material supply chains,” notes Andrew Miller of Benchmark Mineral Intelligence. Investors will undoubtedly keep an eye out for the unveiling of VW’s electric vehicle launch at the Consumer Electronics Show next month. To learn more about what Volkswagen has in store, contact Cardinale Volkswagen in Salinas today.

Electric Phaeton Coming in 2020

Thursday, December 24th, 2015

VW 2 prioritizing future investments

Volkswagen has announced that it will begin production on the all-new electric Phaeton in 2019, with plans to bring it to market by 2020. The luxury sedan was phased out of the U.S. market in 2006, and its end draws near in Europe. According to Reuters, however, the Volkswagen plant in Dresden, Germany will undergo major renovations, in anticipation of the 2019 production of an all-electric Phaeton. It is widely known that VW will announce an EV at the Consumer Electronics Show, with some speculating the return of the classic microbus. So it makes sense that Volkswagen would be electrifying the Phaeton. VW now seeks to deepen its commitment to “electrification” of its vehicle lineup. To stay informed about the “top secret” unveiling at CES, or to inquire about in-stock current inventory, stop by Cardinale Volkswagen in Salinas today.

Volkswagen E-Golf: Not your Typical EV

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2015

Cardinale VW 2_eGolf

According to E-Golf product manager Mike Klopotowski, the EV “drives like a sports car”, not like a typical electric car. Volkswagen’s all-electric E-Golf boasts the same performance, space, comfort and style as its regular gasoline-powered brother. In recent months, VW has pledged to spend a minimum of $100 million in 2016 to further their research and development of electric and hydrogen fuel cell powertrains. Klopotowski continues to say that it handles well, runs fast, and can seat five passengers plus cargo. Early adopters of electric vehicles who seek a zero-emissions car, and baby boomers alike, see the appeal of the e-Golf, which is a very understated electric car that does not look, feel or behave like other EVs in its class. Klopotowski continues, “It couldn’t look like a spaceship…older buyers don’t want something too futuristic.” The e-Golf is quiet, responsive and fun to drive, with a smooth, firm ride and all of the interior trimmings that we’ve come to expect. Its 115 horsepower engine, even when in regenerative braking mode, drives more like a sports car than an EV. Its full size back seats fit real life adults – a rarity among others in its class. It is DC-capable, with charge time around 30 minutes on a fast charger. To learn more about how Volkswagen is innovating into clean-energy vehicles, visit Cardinale Volkswagen in Salinas.

A Bus By Any Other Name…Could be the Bulli?

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2015

Cardinale VW 2_BulliConcept

Volkswagen has long-rumored to be readying its newest microbus for production. Last introduced as the Bulli in Germany in 2011, the vintage microbus-influenced concept certainly has people speculating. Based on recent reports from Maxim magazine, a “Volkswagen insider” confirms that the German automaker will in fact launch an all-new battery electric van concept at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The source confirms that conventional internal combustion versions of the van will be available simultaneous to the sale of the electric model. However, due to the cost-prohibitive nature of van and microbus sales in the U.S., the concept is not expected to debut here. Martin Winterkorn, former VW chairman, noted, “At a time of major social and technological upheaval, people expect new answers, new solutions and new directions from (Volkswagen).”

VW’s 7-Seater CrossBlue SUV Road Testing Underway

Wednesday, December 16th, 2015

Cardinale VW 1_SignThenDrivea

The long-awaited seven-passenger Volkswagen CrossBlue SUV has just begun testing in China, where it will begin production in 2017. Photos were recently leaked, showing the CrossBlue disguised with an Audi Q7-style body shell. Shanghai-Volkswagen will manufacture the SUV, while FAW-Volkswagen will produce the coupe edition. The CrossBlue will also be manufactured in the United States, at VW’s plant in Tennessee. In fact, the facility, still new, is expected to expand by nearly 130,000 square feet, to accommodate production of the new SUVs. The base engine will be a 2.0 V6 TSI with 200 hp, setting the CrossBlue to compete with mid-range SUVs like the Toyota Highlander, Ford Edge and Hyundai Santa Fe. The CrossBlue is merely a temporary name for the concept car, and will likely be updated closer to the production date. The “younger brother” to the Touareg, the CrossBlue will be a bit smaller, and cheaper. Volkswagen recognizes the growing compact SUV segment, and the CrossBlue is the first in a lineup of five new such vehicles it plans to release in the U.S. VW’s technical chief, Heinz-Jakob Neusser also notes that the company will possibly launch two coupe-like editions thereafter. The CrossBlue coupe edition would compete against the BMW X6 and Mercedes-Benz GLE coupe. Other new VW SUVs in the lineup are: the Taigun Concept, a compact crossover competing with the Nissan Juke; a replacement for the five-seater Tiguan; and a newly-designed and sportier Tiguan coming as well. Stay informed about VW’s upcoming SUVs, by visiting Cardinale Volkswagen in Salinas. And if you’re in the market for a VW now, be sure to ask about our year-end specials, including the annual Sign Then Drive event.

VW Offers Glimpse Inside Factory with Social Media

Wednesday, December 16th, 2015

Cardinale VW 2_SocialMedia

At the Volkswagen factory in Chattanooga, daily tours highlight the manufacturing systems and plant – but they no one is showing up. That’s because the tours are offered via social media, giving the public a glimpse into the local plant in real-time. Though the plant is closed to outside visitors at present, while the new Passat and midsize SUV are under development, the public can visit Twitter, Facebook and Instagram to see images of the new vehicles and the people building them. On Instagram, look for hashtag #VWDayInTheLife. There, you will find photos with captions highlighting day-in-the-life activities. For instance, one photo shows the factory team rallying, as they do every morning before the shift begins, to review the upcoming day, and have a team stretch as part of the Industrial Athlete Program. Check out Cardinale Volkswagen’s YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/CardinaleVW1/videos, and take a virtual tour of some of our current inventory. When you find something you like, give us a call and we are happy to schedule your visit to the dealership. With the annual Sign Then Drive event, there has never been a better time to buy a Volkswagen.
