Volkswagen Set To Become the Leader in Electric Cars By 2025

Volkswagen Electric Car

Volkswagen recently announced it is confident it can “leapfrog” Tesla to become the world leader in the electric vehicles market. Volkswagen’s target is to have one million electric car sales by 2025, according to the Financial Times. Tesla had already pledged to build one million vehicles by 2020.  Come to our #CardinaleVolkswagen dealership in Salinas to see our extensive selection of fuel-efficient VW vehicles, including the e-Golf electric car. We invite you to take it for a test drive. You’ll see it’s just like driving the Golf R only a whole lot quieter!

At a recent press conference, Herbert Diess, head of the VW brand, said that the company would concentrate on improving profitability by cutting costs and enhancing productivity before 2020. After 2020, VW shift its focus to manufacturing electric vehicles.

Diess said that Volkswagen will be able to use “leapfrogging cost advantages” to profitably sell electric cars at the same price as diesel models sell for today. Although Tesla has traditionally offered only higher-end vehicles, it is now offering a more affordable new Model 3 that is targeted toward the mass-market.

Although he acknowledged that the U.S.-based Tesla automaker,“is a competitor we take seriously,” Deiss declared that “anything Tesla can do, we can surpass.”

Safety Tips For Sharing The Road

Tips For Sharing The Road

Bicycles are more popular than ever as people use them for commuting, physical fitness or to avoid traffic. It’s more important than ever for cyclists and drivers to be aware of each other. Your #CardinaleVolkswagen dealership in Salinas wants to keep drivers and riders safe. Here are some safety tips for both cyclists and drivers.

Tips for Cyclists:
Make sure your bike and body are well prepared.
1) Just like a car, your bike needs routine maintenance. Check your brakes and tire pressure. Get a tune-up from your local bike shop.
2) Make sure your bike is adjusted to fit you.
3) Make sure you have the right accessories. A bell to alert pedestrians, mirrors, reflectors, headlight and taillight for night riding and a helmet.
4) Dress for the part. Wear light, reflective clothing at night.

Be Car Aware
1) Be predictable. Ride in a straight line, as far to the right as safely possible, but remaining visible to drivers. Don’t swerve. Use hand signals if you’re slowing down or turning.
2) Watch for hazards. Piles of leaves, puddles, gravel and other dangers could make you lose control of your bike. When riding in the city, watch for manhole covers, sewer grates and other surfaces that can become slick.
3) Obey the law. Make sure you know the laws for your state. Red lights and stop signs apply to you, too.

Tips For Drivers
Bicycles on the road are, by law, vehicles with the same rights as motor vehicles. It’s important for both drivers and cyclists to share the road.
1) Be patient. If the lane is too narrow, if there’s oncoming traffic or if you don’t have enough visibility to pass…don’t.
2) Reduce your speed when approaching a cyclist, even if there’s a bike lane.
3) Don’t honk. You could startle the rider.
4) Be extra cautious of children. They can be even more unpredictable and less aware of the dangers around them.

Volkswagen Launches “America” Ad Campaign to Promote 2018 Atlas

Thursday, May 25th, 2017

Volkswagen announced a new advertising campaign entitled, “America,” debuting in May during primetime. This new advertising campaign serves as the official launch of the all-new Atlas, Volkswagen’s first family-sized SUV built in the U.S. The ad campaign shares a heartfelt story of a three-generation family and their cross-country journey through the United States. It is aired in eight spots. To learn more about the 2018 Atlas, visit our Cardinale Volkswagen dealership in Salinas, CA.

“Our first seven-passenger SUV was built with American families in mind,” said Vinay Shahani, Senior Vice President, Marketing, Volkswagen of America. “The ’America’ campaign tells the story of Atlas through the lens of an American family traveling across this beautiful country.”

The Ad Campaign
To unify all eight spots, the campaign features the same family and various versions of Paul Simon’s song “America,” throughout. The Simon and Garfunkel original is used, as well as a remake recorded by First Aid Kit. Created by the brand’s U.S. agency of record Deutsch, the campaign will run in a variety of formats, ranging from 90 seconds to 15 seconds, for cinema, major TV networks and digital, along with the tagline, “Life’s as big as you make it.”

The all-new Atlas is assembled alongside the Passat in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The #2018Atlas comes with a six-year or 72,000-mile, whichever comes first, New Vehicle Limited Warranty. The coverage is transferable beyond the first owner, making it the best transferable, bumper-to-bumper warranty among SUVs in America.

Spring Is a Great Time for an Air-Conditioning Checkup

Wednesday, May 24th, 2017

Air-Conditioning Checkup

With the arrival of Spring, summer’s hot temperatures are quickly approaching. Spring is a great time to schedule a service appointment with our Cardinale Volkswagen Service technicians in Salinas. They’ll make sure your vehicle’s air-conditioning system is running properly. You’ll want to do this before you realize hot air is coming out of your vents rather than cool air.

Sometimes, all your VW’s air-conditioning system needs is a simple recharge of R-134A. Our highly trained Service technicians will be able to tell you if this is the case. If not, there may be a leak or some other issue creating a problem. They can easily diagnose the problem and fix it.

Possible Air-Conditioning System Problems

Low pressure in the air-conditioning system is the most commonly diagnosed problem. This can be caused by lack of refrigerant, a leak in the system or by a failing compressor. Our #CardinaleVolkswagen Service technicians can properly diagnose and fix any of these problems. Our technicians can also perform needed maintenance that will prolong the life of your compressor.

Air-Conditioning System

The main components of a vehicle’s air-conditioning system include the compressor, condenser, evaporator, metering device and hoses. Another critical part of the system is the refrigerant, R-134A. This chemical compound replaced Freon when it was found to be detrimental to the ozone layer. Cold air is produced when the refrigerant is pressurized by the spinning of the compressor. The faster it spins, the colder the air.

It’s perfect for hikers, horseback riders, geocachers and mountain bikers. Our Cardinale Volkswagen staff agree it’s one of the most beautiful areas in Salinas. Volkswagen Chattanooga Establishes New Workforce Development Program

Thursday, May 18th, 2017

Volkswagen Chattanooga and Chattanooga 2.0 recently established a new workforce development program, the Volkswagen Neighborhood Talent Pipeline. This five week program is offered free of charge to qualified participants who  are introduced to the manufacturing process with the goal of preparing them for successful careers at Volkswagen Chattanooga. Our Cardinale Volkswagen dealership in Seaside applauds this effort to prepare Chattanooga residents for jobs at VW Chattanooga.

“Chattanooga 2.0 approached us with this proposal as Volkswagen Chattanooga is in the midst of our largest hiring push since we came to Chattanooga,” said Mario Duarte, Senior Manager, Organizational Development for Volkswagen Chattanooga. “We believe this program will help new hires arrive with a better idea of what it is like to work in a manufacturing environment, and therefore a better opportunity for success,” Duarte said.

When participants complete the program, they will receive the Chattanooga Manufacturing Excellence Program (C-MEP) industry certification from the Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) at Chattanooga State and an OSHA-10 certification. They will receive priority to available entry level production jobs with Aerotek at #VolkswagenChattanooga with an average starting wage of $14.50.

“To fill the new jobs created in our city, Chattanoogans must first have the chance to acquire the skills needed to land and retain these opportunities,” said Mayor Andy Berke. “Through this partnership with Volkswagen and Chatt 2.0, we are not only ensuring our workforce is diverse and prepared for good-paying, middle class jobs but creating a prototype to develop top talent in neighborhoods across our city.”
