Volkswagen will be discontinuing its Touareg model in U.S. markets. This year’s 2017 Touareg is the end of the line. Cardinale Volkswagen in Salinas and Bay Area Volkswagen dealers suggest that if you are interested a VW Touareg, act soon before they’re gone.
Why Volkswagen Pulled The Touareg From Its Lineup
According to Motor Authority, Volkswagen’s decision to pull the Touareg from its lineup was based on weak sales of the SUV. In the first six months of this year, the VW Touareg sold just 1,630 units. This was likely due to Volkswagen marketing the 2017 Touareg as a luxury SUV with a starting sticker price of about $50,000. Apparently, consumers weren’t willing to pay that much for a Volkswagen SUV when competitors like Audi offered lower prices.
How Volkswagen Plans To Fill The Gap Left By The Touareg
Not one to be easily discouraged, Volkswagen has plans to fill the gap left by the departing Touareg from U.S. markets. For starters, Volkswagen will soon debut its rugged 2018 Atlas SUV and also has plans to introduce a compact SUV to its lineup. In addition, a premium model dubbed the Arteon will also be released next year. Combine these with the rollout of Volkswagen EVs (electric vehicles) within the next year or so, and it would appear that Volkswagen is well-positioned to weather the storm and remain competitive and robust.
