Seaside Volkswagen Drivers 2019 VW Passat First Look
If you’ve been looking to buy an affordable midsize family sedan with renowned German engineering, you should take a close look at the 2019 Volkswagen Passat. The Passat doesn’t try to dazzle you with flashy looks. It’s quietly satisfying, with spacious seats, a smooth ride, and a quiet and refined interior. When searching for an area Seaside VW dealer, you’ll find a dealership where the Passat is available for a test drive. Experience the exciting driving dynamics firsthand and see just how enjoyable this ride is.
Among the changes for 2019 is an updated four-cylinder engine that’s more powerful and gets better fuel economy. A new GT model is powered by the V6 engine. It features a sport-tuned suspension and 19-inch wheels. Driver assistance features such as automatic emergency braking and blind-spot monitoring are now available on base trims. Also new for 2019, VW doubled the term of the Passat's bumper-to-bumper warranty to six years or 72,000 miles. Most midsize cars don’t provide this type of comprehensive coverage.
Reviewers have great things to say about the Volkswagen Passat. Autoweek said: "It's easy to see why the Passat is so good. When you're popping down to the mall, or the hair salon, sometimes you just need a car that feels unobtrusive -- when you don't want to think about driving, but still want something that feels nice. Here it is! This is the archetypical sedan, the template of four-doored serenity."
The 2019 Volkswagen Passat can seat five passengers and is offered in six trim levels: S, R-Line, SE, SE with Technology, GT and SEL Premium. All trims get standard front-wheel drive. Powering all models other than the GT is a standard turbocharged four-cylinder engine that develops 174 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft. of torque, paired with a six-speed automatic gearbox. The GT trim is motivated by a 3.6-liter V6 engine that’s good for 280 hp and 258 lb.-ft. of torque, mated to a six-speed automatic. This V6 is optional on the SEL Premium.
The four-cylinder engine gets EPA-estimated fuel economy rated at 23 mpg city/34 mpg highway.* The V6 checks in with 20 mpg city/28 mpg highway.
High-quality materials are used throughout the sophisticated and luxurious cabin. The 6.3-inch infotainment screen is user-friendly, and the smartphone integration is excellent.
Driver assistance features that come standard in the 2019 Passat include a rearview camera and Volkswagen’s Intelligent Crash Response System. This setup keeps the vehicle’s occupants safe by turning off the fuel pump, activating the hazard lights and unlocking the doors when the airbags are deployed. Safety features available as options include forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, rear cross traffic alert, blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, park assist, and front and rear parking sensors. The 2019 Volkswagen Passat received the highest score of five stars in overall crash testing by the NHTSA.
