The 2020 Volkswagen Jetta is a compact sedan that has the cache of a European marque, with the sensibilities of a car designed for Americans. The Jetta has a large, quiet interior that keeps passengers happy, even on longer trips. Seaside Volkswagen shoppers appreciate the fact that the 2020 Jetta provides more cabin space than some midsize sedan models. Buyers will also benefit from Volkswagen’s reputation for reliability.
After last year’s redesign, the Jetta gets a few changes for 2020. Volkswagen’s Car-Net and subscription-based Wi-Fi are now standard across the Jetta lineup. The SEL trim gets 17-inch alloy wheels and standard wireless charging.
According to Volkswagen dealer near Seaside, the 2020 Volkswagen Jetta seats five and is offered in five trim levels: S, SE, R-Line, SEL and SEL Premium. Powering the 2020 Jetta is a turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 147 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed manual gearbox is standard on the S and R-Line trims, while the SE, SEL and SEL Premium get a standard eight-speed automatic that’s available on the S and R-Line. Fuel economy is exceptional, with an EPA-estimated 30/40 mpg.*
Kelley Blue Book’s kbb.com wrote: “The 2020 Volkswagen Jetta compact sedan has never been better. In terms of generation, it’s only one year old, so the technology and safety features are fresh, with driving abilities that are both refined and athletic. Space and comfort are two more strong points. The pricing is also reasonable.”
One feature we especially like is the Jetta’s Digital Cockpit, which is standard on the SEL and SEL Premium trims. This customizable driver-information display shows essential information including a speedometer, fuel economy, compass, tachometer, altimeter, navigation, phone and more. The system allows the driver to switch easily between different displays to show whatever information is necessary at that time. The Digital Cockpit lets the driver store up to four separate display preferences and adjust settings such as the side mirrors, temperature and seats.
Standard features on the base S trim include 16-inch wheels, air conditioning, cloth upholstery, LED exterior lighting, a four-speaker audio system, AM/FM radio, a 6.5-inch touchscreen, smartphone integration (Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well as MirrorLink), Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and two USB ports.
The SE trim adds simulated-leather seating, dual-zone automatic climate control, keyless entry/ignition, heated front seats, blind-spot monitoring and forward-collision mitigation. The R-Line features 17-inch alloy wheels, an electronic front differential, fog lights and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.
The SEL includes remote start, rain-sensing wipers, a self-dimming rearview mirror, lane-keeping assistance, adaptive cruise control, an 8-inch touchscreen, two USB ports and wireless charging. Audiophiles will love the 400-watt Beats audio system that comes with a CD player and satellite radio.
The top-line SEL Premium adds a navigation system, an eight-way-power driver’s seat with memory settings, and more.
The NHTSA gave the 2020 Volkswagen Jetta its highest score of five stars for overall safety. The Jetta received the highest rating of Good in all IIHS crash tests.
